Field notes on natural remedies

Every remedy has a hometown.
We map it — and check the science.

From ginger crossing every ocean trade route to turmeric grown in Ayurvedic gardens — we trace where each remedy began, what history says, and rate the real clinical evidence behind it. No products. No hype. Just the atlas.

Specimen 001 24.5°N, 78.2°E
Curcuma longa
Origin: Indian subcontinent
Evidence: Moderate

Most remedy content gives you a list.
We give you a map.

Two things are usually missing from natural remedy content: where a remedy actually came from, and an honest account of what science says about it. So for every entry, we dig into both — the geographic origin, the historical journey, and a plain-language read of the clinical research.

We don't sell remedies, supplements, or "miracle cures." This site is funded by advertising, which means our only job is accuracy — not conversion.

🗺️ Geography first

Every remedy is traced to its region and source — the plant, the culture, the climate that produced it.

📜 Real history

How each remedy spread — trade routes, texts, healers — not just "used for centuries."

🧪 Honest evidence

Every entry is rated Strong, Moderate, Limited, or Traditional Only — even when that means admitting the science isn't there yet.

Find a remedy three different ways

Whether you're chasing a specific ache or curious about a region's traditional medicine, the Atlas is built to be browsed, not just searched.

🔍

Search by ailment

Sore joints, restless sleep, anxious thoughts, upset stomach — find remedies traditionally used for your specific issue.

🌍

Browse by region

Explore the traditional medicine of a particular part of the world, from South Asia to the Mediterranean to West Africa.

📊

Filter by evidence

Only want remedies with real clinical trial support? Filter by Evidence Strength and skip straight to what's well-studied.

Evidence Strength, defined once, applied everywhere

Every single entry carries one of these four ratings. No remedy gets a pass — the goal is trust, not enthusiasm.

STRONG

Multiple high-quality clinical trials and systematic reviews with consistent, positive results.

MODERATE

Good clinical evidence exists, but results are mixed, sample sizes small, or more research is needed.

LIMITED

Early-stage research only — mostly lab or animal studies, or a small number of human trials.

TRADITIONAL ONLY

A long history of use, but little to no rigorous modern clinical research behind it — yet.

Specimens catalogued so far

New entries are added weekly. Each one follows the same format: origin, history, evidence, and safe modern use.

Search by symptom, condition, or remedy name — results show traditional use and evidence strength, not a diagnosis.
